Official Rules for Entry

No random drawing. Recipients will be selected based on application responses and the criteria below.

1. Sponsor

The That’s Not Normal Serana promotion (“Promotion”) is sponsored and administered by Stephanie Hanrahan (“Sponsor”). This Promotion is not sponsored, endorsed, administered by, or associated with Hachette Book Group, Serana, Instagram, Meta, Facebook, or any other social media platform on which it may be promoted.

2. Eligibility

The Promotion is open to legal residents of the fifty (50) United States and the District of Columbia who:

  • identify as women;

  • are at least eighteen (18) years of age at the time of entry; and

  • are available to attend the full retreat at Serana in Paige, Texas, Spring 2027.

Employees, contractors, agents, and immediate family members of the Sponsor, as well as anyone directly involved in administering or judging the Promotion, are not eligible to participate.

Void where prohibited by law.

3. Promotion Period

Applications must be submitted during the entry period stated on the official retreat webpage.

All required materials must be received before the stated deadline of February 9, 2027. Late, incomplete, illegible, or otherwise noncompliant entries may be disqualified.

Sponsor’s computer or website records will serve as the official timekeeping device for the Promotion.

4. How to Enter

To apply for one of five available retreat spots:

  1. Preorder That’s Not Normal by Stephanie Hanrahan.

  2. Upload a valid preorder receipt or other acceptable proof of purchase through the official retreat webpage.

  3. Complete and submit the retreat application, including all required application questions, before the stated deadline.

Limit one application per purchased copy of That’s Not Normal.

Submitting an application does not guarantee selection.

This is an application-based experience. Recipients will not be chosen at random.

5. Selection of Participants

Five (5) applicants will be selected to attend the retreat.

Applications will be evaluated using the following criteria:

  • Connection to the themes of That’s Not Normal — 40%

  • Thoughtfulness and authenticity of application responses — 30%

  • Potential contribution to the retreat community and group experience — 20%

  • Overall application — 10%

Selection decisions will be made by Sponsor and/or individuals designated by Sponsor.

All judging decisions are final and binding. Sponsor will not provide individual feedback, scoring, or explanations regarding why an applicant was or was not selected.

Because participants are selected based on application responses and predetermined criteria, this Promotion is not a random drawing or sweepstakes.

6. Participant Notification

Selected applicants will be contacted using the email address or contact information provided in their application.

Selected applicants must respond within the period specified in the notification.

If a selected applicant:

  • cannot attend the full retreat;

  • fails to respond by the stated deadline;

  • is determined to be ineligible;

  • fails to complete required forms; or

  • otherwise declines or forfeits her spot,

Sponsor may select an alternate applicant using the same judging criteria.

7. Retreat Experience

Each selected participant will receive admission to the That’s Not Normal: The Retreat at Serana in Texas, Spring, 2027.

The retreat experience is expected to include:

  • two nights of lodging;

  • meals during the retreat;

  • nonalcoholic beverages;

  • guided conversations with That’s Not Normal author Stephanie Hanrahan and Loving Lemons host Dr. Lisa Peña;

  • creative experiences and planned retreat programming; and

  • unstructured time to enjoy the property, pool, and surrounding land.

Specific programming, meals, accommodations, hosts, activities, and scheduling may be modified as reasonably necessary.

8. Expenses Not Included

Unless expressly stated otherwise, participants are responsible for all costs associated with attending the retreat that are not specifically listed as included.

This includes, without limitation:

  • airfare;

  • ground transportation to and from Serana;

  • transportation to and from airports;

  • personal expenses;

  • travel insurance;

  • incidental expenses; and

  • any other expenses not specifically identified as part of the retreat experience.

No cash alternative or substitution will be provided.

Retreat participation is not transferable or assignable.

9. Taxes and Required Documentation

Selected participants are solely responsible for any federal, state, or local taxes associated with the value of the retreat experience, if applicable.

Sponsor may require selected participants to complete eligibility confirmations, liability releases, publicity releases, tax documentation, emergency-contact information, medical or dietary information reasonably necessary for participation, or other documents related to the retreat.

Failure to timely complete required documentation may result in forfeiture of the participant’s spot.

10. Participant Conduct

Participants are expected to treat other guests, hosts, property staff, and the retreat venue with respect.

Sponsor reserves the right to remove a participant from the retreat for behavior that Sponsor reasonably determines is threatening, abusive, discriminatory, harassing, disruptive, unsafe, unlawful, destructive, or materially interferes with the experience of others.

A participant removed for misconduct will not be entitled to reimbursement for travel or other expenses.

11. Application Content and Confidentiality

Applicants should not submit information they do not wish to share with Sponsor or individuals assisting with selection.

Application responses may be reviewed by Sponsor and individuals involved in administering or judging the Promotion.

Sponsor will not publicly share personal application responses without permission, except as reasonably necessary to administer the Promotion or as otherwise permitted by law.

12. Photography, Recording, and Publicity

The retreat may be photographed, filmed, or otherwise recorded.

Selected participants may be asked to sign a separate photo, video, recording, and publicity release before attending.

Participation in the retreat may therefore involve appearing in photographs, video, social-media content, promotional materials, or other content associated with That’s Not Normal, Stephanie Hanrahan, the retreat, or related projects, subject to the terms of any release provided to participants.

13. Privacy

Personal information collected in connection with this Promotion will be used to administer the Promotion, evaluate applications, communicate with applicants, coordinate the retreat, and fulfill related legal or administrative obligations.

Information will be handled in accordance with applicable law and any privacy policy posted on the official retreat webpage.

14. Changes, Cancellation, or Force Majeure

Sponsor reserves the right to modify, suspend, postpone, relocate, or cancel the Promotion or retreat if circumstances outside Sponsor’s reasonable control make it impracticable, unsafe, unlawful, or impossible to proceed as planned.

Such circumstances may include, without limitation, severe weather, natural disaster, public-health emergency, governmental restrictions, venue unavailability, transportation disruption, acts of God, or other events beyond Sponsor’s reasonable control.

Sponsor is not responsible for applicants’ or participants’ travel costs, cancellation fees, lost wages, or other expenses resulting from a postponement, modification, or cancellation.

15. Disqualification

Sponsor may disqualify any entrant who:

  • provides false or misleading information;

  • submits fraudulent proof of purchase;

  • attempts to submit multiple applications;

  • tampers with or attempts to manipulate the application process;

  • violates these Official Rules; or

  • acts in a manner intended to interfere with the legitimate administration of the Promotion.

16. Release and Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, applicants and participants agree to release and hold harmless Sponsor and any affiliated individuals or entities involved in administering or hosting the Promotion or retreat from claims, injuries, losses, damages, liabilities, costs, or expenses arising from or related to participation in the Promotion or retreat, except to the extent such liability cannot legally be waived.

Participation in travel and retreat activities is voluntary and undertaken at the participant’s own risk.

Nothing in these Official Rules is intended to waive any right or liability that cannot legally be waived.

17. Governing Law

These Official Rules and the Promotion are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

Any dispute arising from the Promotion or these Official Rules will be subject to the jurisdiction of the appropriate courts located in Texas, unless otherwise required by applicable law.

18. Property and Participant Responsibility

Participants are responsible for respecting the retreat property, accommodations, furnishings, and other property belonging to Serana, Sponsor, or third parties.

A participant may be held financially responsible for loss or damage caused by her intentional, reckless, or negligent conduct during the retreat, to the extent permitted by law.

19. Verification

Sponsor reserves the right to request additional information or documentation reasonably necessary to verify an applicant’s identity, eligibility, proof of purchase, or the authenticity of an application.

Failure to provide requested verification within the timeframe specified by Sponsor may result in disqualification.
